“All the world’s a stage” in this literature and discussion course

devoted to the life and works of the bard: William Shakespeare.

 

Cost - $200 (books will be provided)

High School Level Literature

 

This course will offer the skills needed to enjoy Shakespeare’s richness and relevance.  Tragedies, histories, and comedies such as Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, and Henry V are studied both within the context of Elizabethan culture and for the timeless, universal appeal of the stories. Through intensive work, students will learn to read the text accurately and imaginatively, and to appreciate Shakespeare’s dramatic dimension.

 

     Students will be able to:

  • develop the ability to interpret literature and complex ideas

  • develop vocabulary of literary terms

  • recognize, discuss, and write about universal themes in literature

  • compare and contrast characters and plays

  • develop a knowledge of how conflicts can be destructive

  • relate their own background and experience to literature

  • become familiar with Elizabethan English

  • demonstrate comprehension by paraphrasing or summarizing scenes and/or acts

  • develop and write a research paper

  • write, memorize, and deliver several orations/soliloquies
