There
are some who believe that only a few chosen people can homeschool their
children. However, anyone can
homeschool, though the parent may have to change their own habits in order
to be successful.
Most states do not
require any credentials to be a homeschool teacher. Make sure you know the laws of your state. Texas does not require any special education or certificates in order to
homeschool.
The most important qualification is to love you
child.
You can teach your
children. You know your child. The key to learning is to balance
between boredom and frustration. Is there anyone better
qualified to teach your
child? You know their signs of
boredom and frustration.
Let the child learn according
to their pace without being compared to others.
The homeschool parent’s
job is not to teach but to find the opportunities
for the children to learn.
A parent NOT knowing
something can be viewed as an advantage. As you learn about a subject,
your child can observe the learning process in action. Our children
learn so much just from watching us. When parents learn
something new homeschool actually improves. Besides setting a good example
for your child, you are able to
gain insights into the
learning process.
Ask yourself, "
What helped me the most? " and
"
What interfered with my
learning?" .
The most important
virtue a homeschool parent can have is patience: with parents, with family,
with friends. Patience allows
"the miracle
of human development to unfold
according to its own internal laws, from birth
through infancy and childhood
and youth,
and even till the moment of
death.”

Greenberg, in "Child Rearing"
